Business Leadership Styles

Autocratic Leadership Style

The autocratic business leadership style is when one person in the business has total control. This type of business leader makes all decisions, tells employees what to do, and generally does not take input from others on how things should be done.

At first glance, this business leadership style might seem like a bad idea because it doesn’t give any power to other people in your company. However, an advantage of using this business leadership model is that everything will get done quickly (as long as you make good decisions).

There’s no debating or discussion about how something needs to get done; once you decide upon something, everybody follows through without question because they don’t have a choice! The downside? Autocratic can sometimes use their position for personal gain and may not be as concerned about business results.

Democratic Leadership Style

The democratic business leadership style is when one person in the business has total control just like autocratic, but they do give some power to other people in the company by asking for their input before making decisions or delegating tasks that need to get done.

This allows your employees to have a voice so you can reap all of the benefits of using an autocratic business leadership model without any of its disadvantages! The main downside is it takes longer because there are more steps involved with this type of business leadership model.

Laissez-faire Leadership Style

The business leadership style called laissez-faire is when the business leader gives little to no direction and lets employees take control of their daily tasks without interference or input from anyone else in the company.

This business leadership model can cause problems though because there might not be a plan for what needs to get done, so you must think carefully about if this business leadership style is right for your business before deciding on using it.

Participative Management Style

The last type of business leadership we’ll go over today has been proven successful and that is participative management. Participative managers give ample opportunity for their employees’ ideas and opinions by allowing them to contribute to business decisions and giving them a chance to voice their concerns.

This business leadership style is great because it gets everyone involved in the business, which can lead to increased productivity and happier employees! The downside? It’s more time-consuming than autocratic or democratic business leadership models (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!).

Which Business Leadership Style is Right for You?

Now that you’ve seen business leadership styles, which one will work best for your business?

Autocratic and democratic business leadership models are great because they get everyone involved in the business.

However, a participative management style might be right for you if you want to create a more happy and productive workforce with ample input from employees! Remember: businesses are about business results. If your business leadership style helps you achieve business goals, then it’s the one to go with!
