The signs of favoritism at work can be subtle and difficult to identify. Sometimes, you may not even realize that you’re being treated unfairly because it’s simply become a part of your reality. However, when it starts affecting your work life balance and overall happiness, then something needs to change. In this blog-article we will discuss signs of favoritism at work and how they might be damaging to both you and the company as a whole!

Here are 6 signs of favoritism at work:

1. You get all the good projects

Do you feel like you always get the good projects while others are left with the mundane and difficult tasks?

This is a clear sign of favoritism. It’s not fair to give someone an easy job just because they’re friends with the boss or because they have connections. Everyone should be given an opportunity to shine and showcase their skills.

If you feel like you’re always stuck with the crappy tasks, then talk to your boss about it. Let them know that you feel like you’re not being treated fairly and see if there’s anything they can do to help out.

2. Your boss is always praising you in front of others

Do you feel like your boss is always singling you out in front of others and praising your work?

If this is happening, it’s definitely a sign that you’re being favored. It can make other employees feel resentful and devalued. They may start to think that they’re not good enough or that they’ll never be able to live up to your standards.

While it may feel nice to be praised, you have to remember that everyone should receive equal recognition for their work. You don’t want them feeling like they’re being slighted just because of the color of their skin or what’s on their social media profile.

3. You have a better office space than your co-workers

4. The company provides extra benefits for you, like a car or a house allowance

Do you get extra benefits from the company that other employees don’t?

This can be a sign of favoritism. It’s not fair to give one employee special privileges because they’re buddies with the boss or because their parents work for your business as well. While it may seem insignificant, these perks add up over time and will only lead to resentment from your co-workers.

If you’re receiving extra benefits, then be sure to thank your boss and let them know how much it means to you. However, don’t forget to share the love and treat others with the same respect that you would want them to show you.

5. You’re never asked to do grunt work and are always getting the most interesting tasks 

Do you feel like you’re always getting the interesting tasks and never asked to do grunt work?

This is also a sign of favoritism. It’s not fair for one person to be given better treatment just because they have more experience or are friends with someone higher up on the totem pole. It can make them complacent, as well as lead to resentment from other employees.

If you feel like you’re always getting the good stuff while others are stuck doing the boring tasks, then speak up! Let your boss know that you want to help out with all types of tasks and see if there’s anything they can do to change things up.

6. Your boss gives you special treatment – they don’t talk to other employees in an informal way

Do you feel like your boss talks to you differently than they talk to other employees?

This is another sign of favoritism. If your boss only talks to you in a formal way and never has an informal conversation, it’s because they’re treating you differently. It may seem like a small thing, but it can make you feel singled out and can lead to problems down the road.

If you feel like your boss only talks to you in a formal way, then it’s time to have an honest conversation with them about how their actions are affecting others and themselves as well. You don’t want working at this company or for this person to cause any stress or anxiety! Keep things professional, but also be sure to communicate how you’re feeling.
